My daughter wanted a pet buff silkie so I purchased 2 at the feed store. They are about 4 weeks old. One is developing a red comb which makes me think cockerel. It also has some black on the wing feathers. The other one is solid colored, larger body

but smaller comb. I know its hard at this age but what are your thoughts?

Here he is at 5 weeks. He's getting little red wattles. He's so cute! But I thought his wattles and comb were supposed to be black!

Supposed to be black, but some hatchery stock will have red combs.

Agreed. They’re supposed to be black. Hatcheries don’t put too much care into breeding their stock to the standard. But c’mon... How cute is that face though with those little wattles? :love Adorable!

And I also have to agree that by the redness in their combs already, they’re probably cockerels.

It doesn't matter to me either way. I just love watching them grow day by day! The other one hasn't changed much in looks since last week. They are just the cutest pair and my daughter loves them so much!

Look at my babies now! 4 months old! Pretty sure they are both roos. The lighter one appears to have a faint cuckoo pattern. Or am I seeing things?
