Hi everyone! I'm ready to put wood shavings in for my 1 week old baby chicks, but I've found out the shavings I got from the poultry farm where I got my chicks is hardwood not pine. They said this is what they use.
Is it okay to use it or should I find some pine? A pic is attached.

Thank you!

Hardwood chippings is what is recommended for chicken runs here in the UK. My choice would be hardwood chips over Pine. They last longer, should be low dust and tend to carry fewer pathogens than soft chip or mulch.
I wouldn't use Mulch.
I don't know what season you are experiencing but if it is fall/autumn where you are then dried leaves can make a wonderful alternative for chicks.

Okay good to know, thank you!
We are in spring in Melbourne, AUS. No available leaves unfortunately.

Hiya, and welcome to BYC! :frow

Your wood chip bedding looks great, and like @Shadrach said above, it will work fine.

We use horse bedding pellets (100% compressed pine) in our brooders. I bet yours smells better. :)

We're glad you're here!

Thank you! I'm very attached to my babies already and want to make sure they will be okay!

Their water and food is already full of said wood shavings! 🥺Suggestions?
Raise the feeders and waterers. Either hang them or put them on a platform. I prefer the platforms because I found them easy to set up. They may need steps. And make sure the chicks can't tip them over.
