Are paper shreddings ok for coop bedding?

Hello. In a few days, my chicks are going to live in our coop. My chick already warned me that if she didn't like the coop she's going to destroy it. Everything is set, except for the bedding. I wanted to use wood shavings but we already spent a lot of money on shavings in the brooder. I saw in the forum that you can use newspaper shreddings(thanks). Is this correct? Thanks in advance!

How much does wood shavings cost you out there?

Paper isn't the best as it mats down and gets all wet. You don't have to put shavings in the run, just the coop where they sleep. Clean that out every few weeks or months depending on how dirty it gets.

Can you get straw? Or dried grass? Or other filler type material?

Oh, we have lots of grass. I can use dried grass? Yes! Thanks for the info!

And where does straw come from?

A small bag of wood shavings cost 25 pesos(50 cents) but that is expensive for us. 2 small bags are needed to fill up the brooder floor. Thanks!

Oh and if there is any other beddings that are good let me know!

So there is no place to buy the stuff in bulk? I know that at the pet store if I get shavings in a tiny bag about 6 inches by 6 inches by 18 inches they are about 3 bucks (the cost of like a coffee). Now if I go to the feed store and buy the huge bag that is 1 foot by 2 feet by 3 feet, it is about 8 bucks. Much cheaper.

But I am thinking you wont be able to find straw because I don't imagine huge fields of wheat where you are.

Just make sure you change the grass a lot and it doesn't get moldy.

You can try using dried leaves, ground husks, and bacialy anything that you see people put on the ground for their farm animals.

Filler materials are just left over stuff from food production you can sometimes use as beddings. Like left over bark pieces from trees or pine needles. I don't know your area so you have to just look around.
