Are rhode island reds family friendly?

Initially, I felt I was "settling" by getting RIRs, since they weren't on my favorites list- but after hearing all your enthusiasm, I'm really looking forward to adding some to my little flock!

My family has game fowl and I want them to enjoy some nice eggs from an RIR So I am buying a couple of them for us. Plus its always nice to have some variety.
