We acquired a D'uccle Rooster a few weeks ago and I introduced him to our girls last night. BOB chased the first one around for a few seconds like he was going to mate.. but then stopped when she ran. He did this a few other times with the other girls. He has danced a little, but for the most part, they just mill around together. We watched for an hour or so last night. Felt kinda dirty. lol.

Do you think Bob hasn't a clue? He is starting to molt.. will they play a part in him not being ready. Or is Bob being a gentleman and waiting for the girls to come around? I am guessing that Bob is about 3 or 4 years old.

He cried when I took Emma from his crate last night for the evening. It was sad.

I can hardly wait to hear myself.

Most cocks won`t chase a hen, preferring to rely on stealth to obtain love. Bob`s old enough to have determined this for himself. They do become more gentlemanly with maturity, however. You can count on Bob to be very clued in at his age.......Pop

thanks pop. I saw him making a nest for Emma today. She seems to get along with him best out of our 3 hens. Not sure if they have gotten together yet, but he seems to be a gentleman for sure!
