Are roosters really necessary?

Ol Grey Mare: Right. I'll be getting rid of him soon.

Mrs. K: Thanks for your advice. He's over a year old by now and he's protective of the hens but hasn't been able to stop them from being attacked. And yes, like I said he is somewhat aggressive.

Amy: Yep he looks like a pygmy to me! That's neat that you have Nigerian Dwarfs, I have two of them (as well as an Alpine and a LaMancha/Toggenburg). It's too bad that you have so many predators... We have coyotes but they never come near our house, raccoons (I think) are what get my hens. Anyways, do you milk your goats or are they for entertainment?

LOVE Alpine goats! (Not too sure what a LaMancha is... can't wait to google them!) I will be breeding the girls next year... for milk. The eggs and milk are useful for our B&B. We made awesome pancakes for dinner with our garden/farm products (SO fun and rewarding!) Pictured are my two nigerian gals with one of their gardian pals. (My way of spending the day in heaven!)

Good luck with breeding! I'm hoping to breed my doe for the first time this autumn. Also those pancakes sound good.
