Sigh...if you get one, before you know it, you'll end up with an entire pen full!

Yes, to some people they are amazing. To others, not so much lol. I think it's a personal preference. I got my first silkies last year and wasn't so sure about them. They just weren't the cuddly things I had heard they would be. Now, I have a lot of Silkies, lol and am totally hooked. I have some that are lovers, some that are not but I just love their fluffy little bodies

Hi! I have two... Pei Pei, who always was cuddly... she loves to watch tv, her favorite food is soggy cheerios, and she likes me to rub her turquoise ears while she takes a nap in my lap. Ginger does not want anything to do with me, hates it when I cuddle her and will wing-beat my face until she wrenches herself free of me. She likes to eat anything moving including my fingers. They both lay an egg almost every day, so I have plenty. The thing about Silkie eggs is that they're small. I'd say they're about the size of a cereal spoon - maybe a little bigger. I've noticed that egg production tapers off in winter months too, so if you're after lots of eggs, you might want to mix in a couple bantam breeds like Buff Orpingtons or Barred Rocks. ( my current plan : add a BO, BR and 4 Splash Silkies)
I've tried other chicken breeds, and was in fact raised with Barred Rocks and Rhode Island Reds, but keep coming back to the fluffy softness of a Silkie.
