Down to around 17 degrees?

I had passed on thinking of having a Silkie because I'd heard they need applied heat in winter ... but would like a certain answer.

Also... do Silkies lay normal-sized eggs?

thanks!

I never provided heat for my silkies over winter. I also didn't let them outside on the ice or snow, which means you need a pen big enough to secure them over winter. As for eggs, they are small because it is a bantam breed.

This is a good question about Silkies. I've been wondering what I need to do to get things ready for winter here for my 3 Silkies. Thanks for asking this!

Edited to add: Thanks for answering that Jody! I was curious too.

My silkies have done fine in the winter, even when it's been less than 10 degrees out. If I have younger birds over the winter this year, I may add heat when it gets really cold.

Like Jody said, they're a bantam breed, so they won't lay a standard size egg.
