I got some ducklings online and one of them, the snowy mallard, is very quiet. Its reminding me of muscovys, which I've raised before once, but I cant remember ever having other breeds of ducks be so quiet when young, even regular mallards, though it's been years so perhaps I'm forgetting. does anyone know if this is a snowy mallard thing? I'm just curious since all other ducks ive had and even most adult ones, are almost constantly talking. they act a lot like a muscovy too with movements and watchfulness and I'm starting to wonder if perhaps they mixed up what they sent me.

I will also use this post as an excuse to share pictures of my ducklings. the three older ones are from tractor supply, they look to be khaki campbell and swedish(tho the black one may be mallard or mixed, I'm not sure yet but the feathers coming in might be brown instead of black) or could be golden 300s.

the younger 5 are all different types that I ordered online at Idealpoultry, a black/white magpie, blue swedish, buff, fawn/white runner and snowy mallard(all except for the snowy are crested in this group, dont worry, I'm not planning on hatching their eggs in the future, and if I change my mind, I will only do so if they're properly mixed with non crested)

I have hatched a few of the same breed and a few are loud and a few are quiet, Mine get louder when they get hungry or stressed out in some way

Best chance at some peace and quiet is keeping your coop as dark as possible with shutters or some window covers, that way they don't know its daylight until you are ready to let them out in the morning, Keep food and water out aslong as they are out

I suppose it's just them as an individual then, I'm just used to all mine being chatty:) I dont have issue with them being loud, and they have no issue sleeping, just chatty when awake but thank you
