Are some types of wood worms poison to chickens, coop building? (probably a dumb question)

While talking with my grandmother this weekend we got on the topic of the coop I've got to get built and I mentioned that there is a friend of mine taking down 250 feet of cedar privacy fence. It's all cedar even the 4x4 posts and cross pieces. The slats themselves are basically an 8' tall 1x8. I was told I could have if I help take it down and haul it off. My grandmother, who grew up with livestock, said that she remembered some kind of "bo weevil" or "bore bug" that lived in old cedar that was poisonous to chickens. She specifically said that her father refused to use cedar after it killed a whole flock of chickens one year.

I've got a great chance to score enough free wood to build a small hay/feed barn and attached chicken coop but don't want to kill off my birds.

I have never heard of poisonous bugs to chickens. And I thought cedar was naturally bug resistant.

I would use cedar wood to build a chicken coop if I could get some for free or cheap!

I believe that your Grandmother memory is not remembering correctly.

Well cedar shavings are bad because of the oils, it is possible a coop made out of unsealed cedar wood could have caused respiratory problems too. If you want to use it you might want to coat the interior with some type of sealant.

It seems like too big of a coincidence that your great grandfather r had a HUGE problem with cedar and that now days people don't use cedar shavings.
