Are there any breeds you just don't house together?

I have found that Polish and Silkies do well with each other but they do not do too well with non crested breeds unless they got ample space to run.

On the farm, it was not a problem at all for Polish and other breeds running around. In the city on a small coop and run, it was a big problem.

Sounds like we may want to make the tractor a crested only tractor then. I was hoping to breed the EE roo with them for a silkie-ish EE:)

It's too bad we can't let them free range on the 80 acres we have here. DH's family have dogs that kill any animal they can get a hold of. ::grrr:: And those dogs know that they are pets (they killed a cockerel that we were attempting to let .free r.ange yesterday)

Do ya'll think buff orpingtons would be ok in the tractor with silkies?

I am hoping hens of various species will do ok in a bigger coop/lot situation.
