Countless posts I scroll through, people leave responses that are:
  • Unrelated to the original post
  • Hijacking the thread with their own issues
  • Leaving unsolicited advice that does not help the OP
  • Unhelpful and clog up the thread, eg "I don't know." Which to me is the most baffling thing of all....if you don't have any helpful info, why are you posting?
This forum has the potential to be a great resource for folks, but more often than not I feel I'm sifting through the above dross to find just the smallest bits of useful info. A little better moderation of the boards would be a great start to fixing this.

What an entrance to your BYC membership!

BYC already is a great source for everyone. Posting on a public forum will always trigger all kinds of answers, but luckily everyone gets to choose which to read/like/follow and which just to skip.

There are thousands of posts and threads and the Staff are volunteers. We have jobs, families and aren't online 24/7.
If there is a post that you feel violates our rules, please use the report link and tell us why you think it is inappropriate and we will review it.
Thank you and welcome to BYC.

It looks like someone tried to help you with your "limp" duck, but you never responded.

Also, sometimes even if a person doesn't have the answer they will post on a thread anyway just to be friendly and it also bumps the thread up on the list so other people who might have knowledge have a better chance of noticing the thread.

To be honest @ihavealimpduck this is very true....and it burns my butt too.
BUTT(see what I did there) so do people who post asking for help then never come back to acknowledge a reply.

Community management is a very VERY tricky game.

There are always cases where a situation can slip into too much or too little. There are always trade-offs on pretty much any stance we take:
  • How much moderation
  • How strict our rules are
  • How much "off-topic" we allow
  • etc. etc. etc.
We've been running forums for a really long time and (of course I'm biased) I think our balance and mix of the items above, and many others, is pretty close to as perfect as you can get on an open discussion community forum.
