Are there really two different sizes of Silkie chickens?

Are there really two different sizes of Silkie chickens: bantam silkies and regular silkies? Or are there just one size of silkies? Some poultry websites list silkies as "bantam silkies" and other websites list silkies as "silkies" only.

Yes, there are bantam and standard silkies

What would be fun though is a Brahma sized silkie

Yes, there are. The larger version are Chinese Silkies, or Broiler Silkies.

If you have an Asian grocery, you can sometimes find broiler silkie chicken and you can see the (processed) size difference.

Also, I don't think any website in the US selling silkies is selling the Broiler Silkie unless it specifically says that. I haven't run across any when looking at various hatchery and breeder options. If you are in or close to a metro area with a large Asian population, your best bet would be finding a backyard breeder who raises them, assuming you want broiler silkies. I assume they would be easier to pluck, but less meat, and also black meat which can be unappetizing for some.

There are different sizes, but if the size is not specified the birds could still be bantams.

Silkies are suppose to be bantam but leave it to hatcheries to breed them bigger from mixing them
