I got seven chicks from a hatching project. I have five naked necks and two unknown breeds (maybe someone can tell me what they are?) I think at least three are roosters with their combs that are turning red, but I'm new to this so hoping someone can help me. Here is a headshot of each of the seven, with the three potential roosters as photos #1, #2 and #4. Are the others girls? Thanks!

3, 5, 6, and 7 all look like pullets to me, thus far.

And they're all crossbreeds. Turkens are a single-comb breed, and the little "bow-tie" some of them have indicates that they carry only a single copy of the naked-neck gene (a purebred should carry two copies.)

Oh yes! That makes total sense about the bow tie, single gene situation. Will I ever be able to guess what their other half breed is?

I believe the three you mentioned likely are cockerels. But it's really too early to say for sure about the others. Could you post more pictures of them in a few weeks? And I honestly can't tell the breeds. Cute little things though :D

The three you mentioned are very likely cockerels. I think #2 is as well, but its still early though. As far as determining the breeds behind crossbreds, its tough. Many factors come into play. Leg length, earlobe color, comb type, body shape, tail shape, number of toes, skin and leg color, egg shell color and shape "if females". Its very difficult. And it can only be done when they are fully mature. As I said body shape is a major factor. Width of chest, length of keel, width of back, length of back, length of neck, width and length of skull. Its nearly impossible to narrow down exact mix, but some breed traits can be determined.
