Are these Aracaunas?

Rhode Island Reds sound like they may be what I have a few of....by looking at the pics on feathersite anyways. Will have to check out my babies again!

I thought that the colour of the egg depended on the colour of the bird. That is, a lavender Araucana will lay blue eggs, and a black Araucana will lay green eggs.

Is that right?

Not really. Certain birds might lay greener or bluer eggs than others because that's how their eggs are, but egg color isn't linked to color like that. Ergo not all black birds will lay a greenish egg, and not all Lavender birds will lay a blue egg. I BELIEVE (not positive) one of the standards for the Auraucana is a light blue egg, so breeders probably try and breed for the bluest egg laying birds. That doesn't mean that green eggs laying Araucanas don't exist, however most breeders are probably working towards a bluer egg on ALL Araucana colors.

No, they are easter eggers

And your chicks are easter eggers, not araucanas. Araucanas are rumpless.And they lay blue eggs not green or brown.

Ok I have two EE.. They started out laying a blue/green looking egg. Now the color has changed. They are laying a white and brown. Is this normal? I miss the pretty little eggs.

To clarify, Easter Eggers are not Araucanas. Araucanas are a rare breed, rumpless and with cheek tufts (not muffs like Ameraucanas have). Easter Eggers are what you get from 99% of all hatcheries in this country when you order "Ameraucanas/araucanas/Americanas" or whatever spelling they choose to use for them. They have mixed genetics and rarely breed true.
