Are these Birchen Marans?

I received these when they were very little and I was told they were black Copper Marans... obviously I was lied to but what are these young fellows? My guess is Birchen but not 100%.

Those look like they may be crosses. Black Copper is the birchen pattern, with a red/gold base rather than silver. The birchen gene is dominant over most other pattern genes. Those look they may have had a Black Copper for one parent and the other may have been a silver based bird, giving them the appearance of the Birchen color, but yellowed.
 
Yeah it is weird for sure. It has me stumped! I’m thinking you may be right about them being a cross with a silver variety.
