I have 4 ducks that my husband bought from TSC last spring. He was told they were Mallards and they sure look like Mallards. 3 hens and a drake.

I had thought that Mallards only lay in clutches in the spring.

Well, recently I have been finding some eggs on the floor of the coop. They are a pearly off white and almost look opaque.
They are very smooth and look like they should be fragile, but they actually have a much tougher shell than my chicken eggs.

First I thought I had a chicken with a calcium problem. Now I wonder if they are duck eggs. Any opinions?

Scramble one up. There should be no mistaking if it is a duck egg.

My Mallard female was hatched in the spring and she recently got done laying her eggs. I would say she laid about 20 total and finished up about 2 weeks ago. We collected the eggs daily, as we do with the Pekins and Campbells, so she never had a chance to sit. Mallard eggs are green also and have a much smoother feeling on the shell than a chicken egg.

If the eggs are kind of translucent looking (kind of like they are made of porcelain) then they are highly likely to be duck eggs. Congratulations!

We have a pekin drake and khaki campbell girl. Based on what you described, I'd say yes, definitely duck eggs

Mallards are also a small bird, delicate looking and lay smaller eggs. Where as Rouens look like mallards but are large birds and lay whitish eggs similar in size to chicken eggs.
