Are these emu eggs fertile? Hatchalong

Oh good! At least it’s not just me that’s excited. The two occupants in my house could care less.

Turner has arrived. I think this may actually work, but will it “work”. Spaced the rollers out far enough and plugged it in. The plug is a bit janky, so we shall see in approximately 1.5 hours.

Didn’t have anything to test it, so found a cup with a letter on it :)

I dont see why the roller mod wouldn't work!

I am posting to follow.

I have a few questions if you don't mind. How many emu eggs per year/month does one expect? Are they edible? Also, how long until maturity from chick to full size?

Thanks!
Curious if the incubator is going to power the rollers though 🤔 hoping so!

Apparently the first laying season for each female can be up and down on how many eggs and how often they lay. She laid these two 6 days apart. So if she’s going to continuously lay this season, will most likely see another one Thursday. Could be 2 to 20 eggs this season. In laying seasons after, you can see upwards of 30 to 40. And laying 3 days apart. All depends on the bird.

There are a few people on here that have gone through a couple seasons and might have better information. This is what I was told from someone who had several breeding pairs 20 years ago.

As for how long for maturity, they can breed as soon as 18 months old to 24 months old.

They are magnificent birds.

I have only been told that stealing eggs (or getting near the nest for that matter) from an ostrich or emu either one is tricky.

I have eaten their meat. Its very good. I would be more prone to raising a pair and doing like you are. Big ol green eggs and ham once a month for breakfast and watching the little rascals grow to be big rascals.

Since ours were raised very close to us, they’re not aggressive. The breeding pairs my kids’ grandma had 20 years ago would attack. Legs flailing and aiming for the guts. She warned me that I need something to shield from attack lol not with mine. So I do believe it’s how they are raised, with people or with emus.

Was the meat similar to beef steak?
