Hi Everyone,

Thanks for adding me to this great community! We're just getting started on raising our first flock of backyard chickens and we fear that these two might be roosters, given some of their features. The first one is a seven-week-old Easter Egger (we call her Jemima Puddlehen). I posted pics from a few different angles. She has slightly bigger legs and feet than our other EE that's the same age and a much bigger comb and wattles (and darker). The second one is a three-week-old Buff Orpington (we call her "Jenny Henny Penny"). Harder to capture good pics of her because she was moving so much. She has more comb development than our other Buff Orpington that's the same age and a MUCH longer tail. We'd love to hear your thoughts on their sexes. Thanks so much!

Charlotte

Thanks, everyone. Darn it, Jeremiah was a cockerel! 😂

In your experience, can Buff Orpingtons have long tails and still be a hen?

Yeah, I'm not sure what the tail at that age has to do with gender? They don't get sex specific feathering until much later. Either a big pink/red comb will develop soon or it's a pullet.
