Are these show quality? -pic heavy-

Asher, here on the board, I haven't seen her around lately though. I don't think she is breeding them any more but I am not sure. I love em to death. The black one is Mya and the buff is Pumpkin, the silkies are Sammy and Cookie I "gave" them to my sisters for their birthdays but they really are mine. They just enjoy telling people they are their chickens.

ALL birds can be "show quality" that just means you show them (nowadays anyway). I agree that the silkies, as of now, are what I would consider "breeder" quality-not the birds you would take to a show, but birds with potential to create better than themselves. Without taking a hands on view, the black cochin pullet looks the closest to what the standard calls for.

I would show them Since you are new to silkies and new to showing - They are of a quality to be good learning tools - Crest size is relative- the standards call for medium but medium in relationship to the size of the bird - It is an over-all proportion - Corey go to Spolyd Silkies web site-
Michelle Burns has won Champ or R Champ Feather leg at the last two shows I have been at with her white silkies -she is also very nice and will answer questions .

I have been adding whites to compete with her - No chance of winning just to compete- Her whites are excellant -
any bird can be shown they do not refuse a bird
the thing to picture is can my bird compete and do well I took a couple birds to see their rating - I have also shown white cochins and a red the red boy won BV at Ohio Nationals 2006- I just started with cochins and do not plan to expand --they are not one of my favorites - Some shows the judge allows you stand there while they judge and you can find out what they look for - For a while on Silkies seeing was a huge deal now it seems to go judge to judge -I don't know enough on cochins to rate your birds - I like your pics though Shari (the other Shari ) has great stock -you might want to ask her --

I dont have silkies ( yet ) and I know my cochins are not show birds but I really like how yours look - I say go for it - just think of how much fun it will be to be around all those other birds and people and think of all the knowledge you will learn that you could use to futher your breeding and than have the perfect show bird for a later time.

just thought I would throw my 2 cents in LOL

HAPPY HOLIDAYS
Julie
