Are these show quality? -pic heavy-

I have a pair of white silkies, one black cchin pullet, and one gender unknown buff cochin, they are all about 5 months old. I know these pics aren't great but I was wondering if some of the silkie and cochin experts could give me your opinons on these birds and whether or not I should show them in the spring.

From what I can see the Silkies have nice feathering. I'd look at their feet. Good separation of 5 toes??
I'd show them, just to see what you need to improve on.
I don't know anything about Cochins, sorry.

Your birds look good. I agree with Angie, go ahead and try to show them and see what needs improvement. I just bought some show quality bantam cochins and plan to show and bred them, but first need to figure out exactly what I have.

Sorry to say, but your silkies are not show quality. They could be shown, but if anybody else had good birds, yours would not do well against them. Their crests need to be MUCH larger to be show quality. Other than that they look noce, w/out looking at their feet, but crests are what you see first and often the deciding factor when it comes to placing. As for your cochins, your buff looks a little light, but her conformation is pretty good. Your black is looking very nice. If you could post pictures of their feet I would be able to tell you for sure. Hope this was helpful.

A big crest doesn't = show quality. APA standard calls for a medium, well rounded crest on female Silkies. They are still young, too.

I agree with Angie, the birds are young and still filling out. They are very nice birds and I would show them to see what happens, who knows, you might place or even win.

I think I will try and show them in the spring and see what comes of it. though I don't know the ins and outs of these breeds I have a pretty good suspision that they were at least decent birds. I am pretty sure the cochins both came out of show stock and I have no idea about the silkies. I will try and get pictures of their feet but I doubt they will be very happy about it.

Well, they sure aren't bad! I'd say go ahead and show, you never know, you might place well! I like the look of your cochins, pretty nice round rump feathers though they could be tighter. The silkies look like they will be very very nice eventually, I like how they look so far!

By all means put them in the show!! It is alot of fun. While your there, talk to the judges and find out what they like and dislike about your birds and go from there. I have never met a judge that didnt have time for the exhibitors. Your birds look beautiful. Where did you get the cochins from?
