Hey Yall! I purchased silkies from a small farm in my hometown. Sold as silkies but Im not 100% sure. They're 5 weeks old now. They're super sweet! Also any guesses on gender?

Thanks!!

Silkie crosses, not pure. They're smooth feathered so that's how you can tell. But a lot of cute silkie features, like crests and feathered feet!

No guesses on gender yet, wait a few more weeks and look at the comb. Anything with silkie is harder to tell though.

Those look like silkies to me! Count the toes. If they have five, those are satin silkies.

Silkies usually can't be sexed until they are around 3-4 months old, sometimes longer.

Polydactyly (extra toes) is a dominant gene so they could still be crosses. Also, I can't see too well on the white one but I should think the beard would be more defined on a pure satin, though it could be a bit early. I would ask the farm owner if they are satins; if they are a satin breeder, I'm surprised they didn't sell them as such.

Also, since they are smooth-feathered it should be easier to sex since you should be able to look at the saddle feathers just like other chickens at 8-12 weeks.

Definitely not pure Silkies as they lack silkied feathers. The breeder is most likely grouping mix breeds aka "Satins" with their Silkies, it's pretty common but should be diclosed.
As Like Turkeys said, sexing will be a lot easier but you will need to wait for their next set of feathers to start to come through
