Are these Speckled Sussex?

So our little pullet in the original picture died the other day. Not sure what happened. We've introduced the cockrel to the flock and so far so good, but we're starting to think he's not a cockrel. Compared to the other one it was much bigger, but I rubbed it's neck earlier and it has no wattles at all. Thoughts? Here's some updated pics. We've also put it with some chicks and it's very motherly towards them.

It's definitely a cockerel. It doesn't have wattles due to the fact he is bearded.

Not typically, no.

Bearded chickens will grow wattles, however, birds with beards will most likely have smaller wattles.

This is more accurate. The beard restricts the growth.

They will never be big enough to see.

I always thought the pea comb gene doesnt have wattles not the beard...looking at my bc1 maybe it is the beard lol

It is. The pea comb gene restricts them. These are EEs. They have pea combs.

I actually think its the beard as my bc1 doesnt have wattles and she has a single comb

Favs are the same way. Single comb, beard, no visible wattles. I've never researched it, but I agree.
