Are these Welsh drakes?

I bought two Welsh ducklings and was told they were female. But now that they’re getting new feathers I’m beginning to wonder. I drove quite a distance for them. The sellers said I could exchange for females but we wanted to raise them from when they were ducklings.

I have zero experience so need more trained eyes.

If you want to get these as female duckling's, the females will have a light colored bill with a dark spot on the tip of the bill. The males whole bill will be dark colored. As they grow they will loose this auto-sexing ability by the bill color, and then you will have to judge by the feather coloring, and the sound that they make. Only the females will quack. The males make more of a sound like a weep, weep weep. Your's look to be about the age that you would be able to know by the sound that they make.

If they are Welshies they are drakes. Unless they are whacking and not rasping. Never seen a welshie hen with a dark head but I haven't seen a lot of them.

I agree. It's the males that have the darker head's as to my knowledge.

They almost sound like my chickens. They don’t make much noise at all. Our khaki quacks and they sort of make a whistle… no, but it’s higher pitched. I don’t know what the sound is tbh!

My welshie girls went through a phase where they had dark heads, scared me for a sec! In this pic there’s only one drake (in the bucket), it may still be too early to tell with yours but their heads do look really dark. The drakes bill should be starting to go green and a females will stay dark. Yours look like they’re going green?

As far as your duckling pics, also hard to tell and the bill method is not 100%. But from your pics I would guess boys.

Overall from your “adult” pics (dark heads and chest), duckling pics (dark bills) and the fact that they don’t aren’t making the same sound as your female khaki I do think you have 2 drakes.
