We are realllly new..like only weeks old into having chickens. We live in the city and can't have any roosters, so we are at the mercy of others that claim they know what they are talking about.

We bought two birds from a guy. He told us 1 was a RIR pullet and then other was a Barred Rock pullet. I instantly knew the one was NOT a BR when I saw "her" and guesstimated she was actually an EE because of her cheeks and hawk-like appearance. But in reading more, based on the build, I am wondering further if this is in fact a Roo and not even a pullet. And if I have "her" breed correct?

Here is one with him next to the supposed RIR "pullet" that we are suspecting to be a roo as well. The upright tail feathers of the black and white one is what is making me think it's an EE Roo.

And here is our "RIR Pullet"...which we know is NOT a RIR now...but what are your thoughts on the gender and the breed?

The second one, your red one is a boy.

Sigh...I was hoping my suspicions were wrong. Thank you all.
