I have 4 keets in with my chickens. The keets are about 2 months old and they are ALWAYS yelling! For no reason at all. Are Guineas always this noisy or will they quiet down with age???

I decided to put a few in with my chickens nearly a year ago to provide a little more security. (And because I think they look just plain cool!) Sometimes I think they "buckwheat" just to hear themselves sing. My mom calls it "barking". For instance: "What are those guineas barking at?!" They're just noisy little critters, but worth to have around if you ask me.

Well, Guineas are typically a noisy bird and most folks who get them do so for that reason. They are the finest of fine watch dogs hence the term, what are those guinea barking at? Will they ever quite down, probably not! They are just noisy creatures and probably always will be. Part of their nature. A good article on them here>> http://chickenreview.com/guinea-fowl/

Chicken Review is absolutely correct - guineas make the best watch dogs ever. Over the past few years, my guineas have chased fox, coyote, mastiffs and imagine this - even a bunny!! out of my yard!! In all honesty, if we didn't have our guineas, my ducks and chickens would have been dead by now. Hmmmm, now all I need to do is find a way to keep the guineas back here in the barnyard at all times, rather than wandering the 500 feet up to the road!

They are by far the best creatures on earth to alert you of strangers of any kind, human or animal. they are natural wanderers also. It is hard to keep a guinea in the yard without a fence. they love to roam.

I have well over 20 of the little darings in the Horse Barn. It is a challenge to walk up to the barn with out them going into a frenzy.
But really that is exactly what I need. I have racoons that visit the cat food at night and I can tell when they show up.
So in a word the answer to your question is: NO

Maybe I just got lucky, or mine haven't had a reason to get riled up yet, but mine are pretty quiet! They were pretty noisy the first day we had them, which is understandable since they'd just traveled through the mail for a few days, but ever since they just run around singing and chirping softly to themselves. They're only a little over a month old and they live with my chickens and turkeys. I do spend a lot of time hanging out at my coop though and its also pretty close to my house, so maybe they're just used to me. They don't freak out when we go into the run or coop and will actually gather around my feet with the chickens and turkeys when I'm handing out treats or scraps.

My guineas are only 10 weeks old. I think I have 4 boys and 1 girl because only one of them buckwheats. They are incredibly quiet so far. But they were raised in the house with a bunch of noisy parrots. They only sound the alarm outside when something is really amiss. That may change once I let them out to free range. I'm waiting until they're 12 weeks for that.

They will quite down. Mine are 6 years old and after 4 years they slowly got quieter. My guineas are now more quiet than the chickens when they sing their egg song. They only scream when a predator is lurking by or something is unusual or wrong. My females hardly do the 'buckwheat' sound anymore and the males are noisy as they cant stop doing their beautiful chirps. You will get used to the sound.

uh oh, you'd better get some more females or they will have some fights over who will get the girls.
