Are They Normal?

I got two polish hens quite by accident last fall. Right now, they are 8 months old, and no egg. They are not even ready yet. They also are a bit smaller than my other birds (with the crest they reach to my red star's chin). I got those guys under the impression that they were wyandottes. I have no idea how large they should be, or when they should be laying. Please help, the internet and other threads have not.

My chickens were almost one before they started laying. Can you post pics of them?

I can in a bit. They look pretty normal, just smaller. Also, I just came back from feeding them, and when I went to pet one of them, she squatted, so we are closer!

Ok I have pictures! The size on them is a bit off because a. They live seperately because they were heavily bullied and putting them in safely was not possible, and b. They are 4-5 inches above the red stars because after nine years of scratching, that spot (one of the favorites) is much lower in the ground.

Update: I got 2 white eggs, so no more free-loading polish!

That's great that they are laying! Polish are slower to mature in that area (laying), I believe. Also - they are, as a breed, smaller/leaner than your average laying hen, so their smaller size is completely normal.

Ok! It is nice to have them laying and know that they are normal, but ugh they like to bury their eggs in the pine shavings in their coop every single day!
