Are they ready to join the ladies?

Long as everyone is playing nice and no one is getting hurt they should be fine. My barred rock pullet was the smallest out of 3 I introduced, she got pushed around the most. She learned how to get away the best in the end and has been seen roosting with one of her bullies lately. It all works out in the end.

Well they survived the night in the coop, but not exactly in with the ladies.

The coop is a prefab that hubby altered by enclosing the attached run turning the entire unit into a henhouse, aka coop. This gives it an upstairs and downstairs. The ladies have never bothered to use the extra space for sleeping even though it has a roost. They still insist on sleeping upstairs.

I imagined we would put the girls inside the upstairs with the ladies since the girls are still a bit small. I figure the new walk in coop will be finished in a couple of weeks before it gets tooooo crowded. Hubby came up with a different approach. He put them in the downstairs. They didn't use the roost, preferring to snuggle in the bedding.

This morning I was up before the sun, in the run, opening the coop to find the girls still sleepily snuggled. 2 of the 4 ladies made there way out without batting an eye feather. I had to chase the 2 lazys out so I could do a quick poop scoop. No one was interested. Finally the girls started to venture out.

I had their feeder and waterer all set up in the run so as to hopefully reduce squabbles. Wynnie has shown herself as head hen. She purposely will go where the girls are. If they move away she ignores them and eats her choice. If they aren't quick they get a peck, then she eats her choice. Henneth has allowed Matilda to eat right next to her. There's a bit of pecking but no bullying. Hubby, Bern, will keep an eye today. I'm hoping to come home from work to find the dog cage gone.

Matilda has earned the name Matilda the Brave. Now Carmen has the name Carmen Hawkeye because all the men in my house wanted to name her Hawkeye...because her head looks like a hawk.:idunno No, I don't see it but it's easier to let them have their fun.
Who knows what other fun names Bunny and Kitkit will end up with.

Bunny, because chocolate eggs.
Carmen because caramel coloring.
Kitkit because she has a "Mohawk" featherdo and Kitkit means chicken in Mohawk. Oh. And because I am Mohawk and trying to learn the language.
And Matilda because we couldn't come up with a name so we let son in law Chris name her. He's the one building the bigger coop now so he got the honor. :love
