Are they really hens?

Black and white is a roo- he very clearly is starting to grow red feathers in the "roo feather zones" on wings and back. Can see several of them in the picture where he's stretching out his wing. The ones on his wing bow(arm) area are thin and pointy tipped to boot.

the other one(barred and bearded one) is not as obvious, think I am seeing some shinier and pointier feathers on neck... especially in the last picture and one of him pecking on ground.

As far as I can see, rest are girls.

Thanks! No crowing yet. The black and white one (the one most in question here) chirps at me and is most curious when I go out there. No squawking just a quiet little chirp. Still no eggs...

20 weeks is not too young for eggs. It looks to me like some are fairly close to laying and I still think the ones you posted are all girls.

Nah. Those girls are still in lanky teenage phase. Still skinny, not filled out yet. The only one I see that is reasonably filled out and almost mature looking is the dark red ee. The age might be wrong.

b/w is a ROO because of the red feathers coming in. by the way- it is very common for mixed color breeding to throw cockerels that start out black and white and eventually get red on the wing bow and can have red showing up on back and saddles also. This one is a classic example. Enlarge the photo of him stretching out his wing.

We'll have to agree to disagree on the black and white one. :) Hopefully the op will post again in a few weeks with the final result.

If the age is right, I'm thinking all pullets. If they are male, they're the slowest developing mixed breed roosters I've seen lol. 20 weeks, those with larger combs are going to be your first layers. I'm not positive on the age, thought, cause soo many of those girls have virtually no comb, and at 20 weeks they should be getting something, heat or no heat. I guess you'll just have to wait and see.

Realize the OP only got those birds 6 weeks ago. I suspect the age of 20 wks is a bit off for those.

I must say, still shaking head over nobody paying any attention to the red feathers coming up on the b/w one plus him and the bearded one with big comb having the thinner, pointy roo feathers on necks. The birds being younger would fit with the roosters showing combs and why the other pullets are so young looking and nowhere near laying within a week or two.
