Good morning everyone. I am concerned/excited that we might be getting ready to have an egg? Our 21 week old buff orpington is the hen in charge. In the morning when I go out to let them out of their coop and feed and water them she is usually the first one out, all the other chickens follow her lead.
Things were different this morning. When I went out to let them out she stayed in the coop, even after I opened the door to get their waterer out to, she stayed in the coop and then I realized, she was in the nesting box. I checked to see if there was an egg but there is just the golf ball we have put in the boxes to show where the eggs go.
I haven't really had a chance to watch them during the day because A.) the have been keeping to the shady dirt bathing areas under the bushes because it has been so hot and B.) I have a 6 year old and a 16 month old that I chase around during the day.
Should I be excited that we are possibly getting ready to have an egg, or should I be concerned that she is not feeling well? Thank you for any help or advice.
