I had posted earlier about trying to get my chicks used to me, and not freaking out everytime I went in to see them. They are about 1 week old now, I've had them since last Saturday. I've been offering them tiny bits of crumbled, boiled egg in my palm for the last few days, and they are hesitant to take it still, so I leave it for them to eat. Today I had one chick eat one tiny piece out of my hand, and the chicks were actually walking over and standing on my hand while I had it in the tub. They seemed a bit calmer this morning when I moved them. I move them to another tub when I clean their cage each morning and afternoon. When I put them back in their brooder, a couple of the chicks sat on my hand for a few moments before hopping off! On a side note, the tub I move them to has dirt in the bottom, (was a water trough for horses at one time). It gets sunlight in the morning, and they actually seem to enjoy the sun, and I have one chick who just rolls in the dirt everytime I put them in there. I think that is soooo cute! They hunt and peck at the dirt, like there's some hidden treasure there. Just wondering if maybe these little ones are starting to get used to me being around, and are maybe deciding I'm not such a scary thing? Is letting them play in the dirt okay at this age?
