Are "white" fir shavings safe for ducks?

Why is that? I can't find any research online.

I ask because mine ran out of shavings and my ex thought oh I'll just make you some from the downed trees. They do smell quite strong but the Ling's seeeeeeem to be ok

Nope, douggie fir. I was just worried because of the smell. It is quite turpentine ish, but I figured no cedar as it's a medicine and as such kills most things if you dose too heavily (like with most medicines) and if it isn't safe for plants to consume or touch I'd bet it wouldn't be safe for baby animals
