Are you a slave to them too?

ours had leftover sweet potatoes today - and i mixed in a little scrambled eggs for an added protein boost!... that was in addition to their daily: oatmeal, warm water mixed with a little crumble (they like it better that way, what can i say??? rottens...), yogurt, black oil sunflower seeds, and tiny lil bit of scratch grains. seeds and grains, of course, to be served showered over daily thrown-in leaves - the better to be scritch/scratch/searched for.....

i'm pretty sure that there's no such thing as a low-maintenance pet once it comes to live at my house.

My chickens see me coming and all run inside the coop and meet me at the door. They are like "And what took you so long?!" Sometimes I think we cater to our chickens more than our kids!

I'm subject to their charms too. The trick is to not look out the window at them until you actually have the time to go cut up the grapes, make the oatmeal, chose the lettuce, heat up the carrot peels, and spoon the yogurt.

It's especially hard in the winter when you feel for them out there in the wicked cold.

Oh yes, if I don't have enough vegetable and pasta scraps, I cook up a bunch of scratch grain in my rice cooker! (got that idea from another BYC devotee!) I get absolutely giddy when I go to the supermarket and the reduced produce rack is loaded! this morning they had star fruit!

Considering the fact that I cut pieces of baked turkey, baked sweet potatoes and brocolli/cauliflower casserole up into bite sized pieces and took it to them on Thanksgiving Day or the fact that I just took them their favorite MUST HAVE treat of steamed brown rice....

naaaaa mine do not control me...I am in control.

Did I mention that I go to the coop on average 10 times a day and spend about 10 mins with them each time?

I am in control I tell you.

What? No heater for them? Mine would go on strike and flog me if they were allowed to become cold or too hot in the summer. I am trying to figure out where to cut the hole in the coop for their air conditioner. I did not like the position they chose for it.
