are you prepped for a recession/depression?

Who is Ron Paul?

All I know is what I experience. I haven't gotten a raise in over 3 years. My pension, which was promised to me when hired 10 years ago, is now gone. I absolutely can't afford what I used to afford. The holidays this year were really thin. I got rid of my landline phone to save money. I traded in my Ford for a Toyota Yaris, which saved on my car payment and gas money. I started a price book for groceries and saved a LOT per month, and we have 4 to feed. So yes, I've done a whole lot to make ends meet. It's not easy. These are definitely hard times. I won't lose my home (unless something terrible happens), so that's a good thing. One car is much easier to deal with than two. I make everything from scratch, and eggs will be a welcome addition to our self-sufficiency. I'm not really worried about a depression, but no one can deny that times are hard for a lot of people right now. We can only hope it gets better.

I still don't know who Ron Paul is...lol

Yes, its one side, (still love that scarcastic stuff.) and that's why its good to see it, gives a more complete picture. I try to find more stations that give different views, I think it helps make more informed decisions or at least have an open mind to see what's going on.
That Link tv has some really interesting stuff.
I almost hate our regular news channels anymore, they are just big info-mercials, with celeb. crud thrown in.
No real information or anything "newsworthy"
I agree it needs "fixed" but we gotta be open to hear everything and brainstorm together to make solutions that work best or better.

Michael Moore was born in Flint, Michigan April 23 1954. WOW, they did not teach us in geography class that Michigan was part of CANADA. Why do they have crappy beer there tho?

I stand corrected. I thought he was a Canadian.

LCR I don't blame you for correcting me. Now I feel bad for Michigan.

Canada has crappy beer? I didn't know that. That would make an interesting thread.

How about Mother Earth magazines?
Fox Fire?
Anyone get them?
They usually have good articles in them.

Other topic, that's exactly why nothing will ever get solved in the world. People cannot discuss anything without someone getting "ruffled".
gheesh
Different opinions and ideals are what makes great things happen, its just talking about them that most people cannot grasp without becoming angry. For whatever reason?

OH ho ho PC!!! Do Not start thumping on Canadian beer!! You could be in a heap of trouble. We are pretty mellow about most stuff, but not our beer!!!

On topic: I am selling more and more books (work at a book store) on getting off the grid and becoming more self sufficiant. I think it's an excellent idea, environmentally, and economically. I hope your economy stays on track, because what happens in the US affects almost every country. I'm rooting for a rebound for you!

I wasn't thumping on Canadian beer. LCR mentioned it. I never heard anything about
Canadian beer being bad.

As for being off the grid that is not realistic. People can buy all the books they want
but most people cannot afford what it takes to be off the grid. Like I said in a previous
post using thermal solar panels can cut actual energy usage by a lot, depending on
location.

shhhhhhhh....we'll keep it secret LCRT. TeeHee

I know living completely off the grid would be darn near impossible, but every little bit helps!!! I really like some of the cool things that ppl come up with like ambiant(?) floor heating, the hot water pipes you can run through your concrete floors and pipe up groundwater to flow through them. I saw a house in a book that used water wheel power from a stream next to the house to power thier entire home! So cool.

The stuff is totally cool. A water turbine from a small stream can produce a lot of power.
It just costs a LOT of money to do it. The first thing we need to do is become as
energy efficient and conservative as possible. Then these systems start making
more sense.
