I just feel the need to share this, maybe I can help somebody else. We buy a ground feed that is made locally at a little mom & pop type place. My chickens had been eating it well and there was none wasted on the floor. Then since I had most of a bag of commercial feed I thought I would mix it in. Well as soon as I started adding the other feed I noticed LOTS of wasted food on the floor around the feeder. I stopped adding the crumbles and the very next day the floor was clean again. Now I don't want to sound like I am putting down a particular feed so I won't mention any names but the initials are Layena. Now some may have good luck with this feed. My girls just don't like it.
My main point is not the brand. My point is if you notice yer chickens wasting check and see if it is because they don't like something you are feeding them.

Well, children would rather eat ice cream than broccoli, too, at least for a while.

Chickens love corn, which is somewhere around 8% protein, and they need at least twice that. They also love animal protein. You might try comparing a can of tuna to your feed.

Am I detecting a bit of sarcasim here? My feed is a 16% protien. Through personal testing we have learned that our chickens lay more / bigger eggs than when fed the commercial feeds we have tried.
Here is the run down.
12/12 mineral 1/2%
millrun26%
barley 20%
oat 20%
corn 20%
soybean 13%
salt/solin1/2%
