Are your Geese good Rat Control?

The bull snakes do a good job around here all summer. So the population is low by fall.
I keep forgetting about snakes eating rats, because I haven't seen a snake in a long time. I don't know what happened to them all, such as the water moccasins. I guess overdevelopment kills them or something.
Another option is Earth Dogs, any Ratter or small breed Terrier.
I know the rat terriers can catch and kill rats, but can they "control" them, since usually no one has little dogs outside all night any longer.

I think the days of Barn Dogs are gone for most, but you'll want to consult youtube on "Ratting with Terriers" I guess it's still a thing for some farmers. Viewer discretion if you're of the more sensitive type.

When I had a rat problem a couple of years ago, my American Buff geese did nothing to deter the rodents.

After many failed attempts to eradicate the problem critters, I went with an electronic trap that zapped the rats dead. I didn't want poison that would kill an unintended victim. Prior to the electronic trap, I used some large wooden rat traps outside the coops at night, baited with dog kibble that I hot glued to the trap so the rats couldn't dine and dash.

We’re did you get your electric trap?

I have two 4-year-old American Buff girls. They are charming, exasperating, destructive and endlessly entertaining. They will herd my ducks, eat wooden trim off the house, freak out when motorcycles drive by and shamelessly beg for treats. However, they do not help with pest control and often let human visitors onto the property without bothering to give me a heads up.

But, I love them!
