I got a brown leghorn and a black leghorn chick in the fall. They are the most skittish chickens despite all the attention they got and still get. It's almost impossible to catch them. My other chickens come running TO me. Is this common behavior for leghorns?

I only have one, and she's in with cochins. She's the only one that avoids me- everybody else is all over me when I come in the coop.

I did not get her as a baby though- so that might factor in a bit.

I've had my Sweetie for just over 2 weeks now and she is the sweetest, calmest, most submissive and cuddly bird in my flock of 30!

She was raised with very little human contact, too, so she must be an exception??

She likes to fly up into my arms for a cuddle and when I stroke her chin or her chest she goes into a trance of sorts, it's hilarious!

The ones I used to have were only skittish if you tried to pick them up as I never handled them. But they didn't seem bothered by me when I went into their pens, etc.

my dad's are very skittish and were from the get go. we ordered 25 mixed heavy roos for eat'n and 25 straight run Brown Leghorns. the leghorns were always as far away from you as they could get. I have a half leghorn half wyandotte pullet out of his hens that is high strung but i can pick her up fairly easily.
