Are your Light Brahmas poor egg layers??

I have 7 light brahmas and they lay really well. They did slow down really badly for about two weeks when we had that really cold snap (the icestorm) but they are back up to laying almost every day.

yesterday I had three of them fighting over one nesting box to lay their egg (I have 5 nest boxes, they all want to use the one).

In the same pen I also have 4 white rocks, who lay about the same as the brahmas. Over these hens (for now) I have a delaware rooster. I'm getting some more light brahmas this spring, though (chicks) so I'll be seperating the brahmas this fall with their own rooster, I'm hoping.

I've only had these girls for a few months (late last summer/fall) and I fell in love with their personalities and their egg laying. I can't wait to get some more of them.

I think they are a great breed but this laying issue has me wondering if I want to breed or not. they are huge birds and I don't want monsters that eat a ton and are chinsey on eggs.

Honestly, I can't think what might be wrong. I've hatched soooo many babies from my one hen since she started laying. She's laying at almost 90%.

They're not all like that. Maybe try upping their protein. In the winter they slow down because they're using their energy to stay warm. Or they could be getting ready to molt, and in that case they'll need extra protein, too.

I have 14 brahma hens, of which four are light brahmas, five are darks and 5 are buffs.
I'm averaging 11 eggs a day and usually once a week that number drops to around 6, then back up to 11.

My brahmas never stopped during winter they were the ones I constantly counted on to lay, and they did. I do keep light on my girls so maybe that is why they never stopped. I have 16 hens and I get on avergae 12-14 a day.
