I have a pair of mountain quail and a trio of California Valley quail. I have talked to the breeder i got the mountains from and the valleys from and both of them have birds laying . Dooes anyone else have new world quail laying. I feed purina layena feed. The cages they are in are decent sized so what in the world is going on and yes they are singing their mating songs. Any ideas anyone.

I have both species and they are laying but not all. I have one mountain female that I hatched and hand raised last year but she has not laid a single egg. I spoil my birds with lots of good things (acorns, meal worms, seeds, lettuce/vegetation, etc.) the winter before up to now and so I don't know why that female didn't lay. Its other sibling female is laying, but her eggs are unfertilized (she won't stick with the male). So this year is bad with mountain quail for me. Ideas for you...lets see, I recommend you give them oyster shell (calcium) for egg shell development. Oyster shell is a great help for my laying birds (even though some are unfertilized).
