Greetings all!

My name is Vicki. I am a brand spanking new owner of some chickens. By this I mean... First time I have even handled a chicken. Quite scary.. They are all giving me the eye.
After much disscussion with my husband about buying some chicks we took the plunge and purchased a few chickens. We decided we were not quite ready to handle chicks, so some older chickens would be a better choice for our first time.

We picked up our 'flock' from an Armish community auction. I was not aware of the vast amount of species they would be selling... Well to cut a long story short we purchased two boxes containing 9 chickens at a 25c each.

So now due to the speed and efficency of the auction and my inhability to keep up, we are now am the proud owners of at least 5 roosters.

I listed four of the roosters on my local Craiglist, hopefully it will not take long before some shows interest in them.

Much searching of the internet is still leaving me confused on the species I have left. The only ones that look alike are 3 of the roosters.
I am still browsing this website to see if I can find some that resemble what I have.

I know one of them is a Turken/Turkin that is as far as I have gotten.

Ultimatly my husband and I are after some egg laying hens. So after the rooster rehoming we will be looking for some Rhodes or Rocks.

Quick question... May have been covered before...

I had asked an old lady who had owned chickens most of her life about how to sex a chicken, here is what she told me.

To sex a chicken you hold it in the air... If feet tuck in it is a girl... Legs dangle it's a boy

Any truth to this?

Thanks for letting me rant!!

. Sorry you ended up with so many roos. Craigslist is great and once you have 20 posts you can post a ad in the Buy Sell Trade section of BYC. Also, that method you mention is not true at all. If you post pictures of them on here I'm sure someone would be able to sex them for you.

I think that is what one worker told me when I bought my first at TSC a few years ago. I got all hens.Perhaps true, but I think I was just lucky! Bsides, I picked from the sexed bin.At the time I did not want to deal with culling roosters for the dinner table. Enjoy your new chickies.
