We have been trying to start up our local saddle club again. This was a club that was successful but was disbanded a couple years ago and some of us "old" members are trying our best to get it going again.
Hubby & I have been going to every meeting and I was elected President and Hubby VP at the last meeting. We are doing our best but a "friend" of mine was elected Secretary, she has not paid her membership dues yet

I did not mention this at the meeting for a very good reason, a long time member and past president was there, she is having Heart Surgery today and I did not want to add to her stress as she is passionate about this club.

Anyway, I just had to email her and ask her to pay her membership. This is gonna go two ways, she will pay it and all will be well or she will get mad and pull out of the club, which means, right now, it will basically be me & hubby running it!

I appreciate this persons enthusiasm, but I know of instances, recently, where she has shirked her financial responsibility with certain people. The fact that she has owed me money for a few months is not even in the equation right now.

I know this is part of my "position" I just do not like it much!

Yeah, clubs can be a wonderful fun recreation......and a pain in the tuckus. Best to get it over with and put it behind you. Clubs have to have rules, members and officers have to follow them. As long as you follow what has been decided by the general membership, you won't be in the wrong. Sometimes it just sucks

Keep sending email invoices. If she complains, tell her that it's the way the system is set up and it's the Secretary's job to make sure all members are paid up. i.e. SHE should be doing it.

If she balks, hold an election for a new secretary after proper notice is given. If anyone asks, just say she doesn't have time to do it after all. The way you said "friend" speaks volumes.

I know! I like her but there is a lot more to her and her story than I will share here. But she had a business deal with one of my best friends, lets just say that deal is over and done with and he has his property back........ for Non-Payment.

I sent the email from the clubs email and I will keep copies, I am hoping it was just an oversight on her part, I always try to give people the benefit of the doubt.

I am on a local committee in our town.

We have an official email account and that is what we use to communicate on behalf of the committee.
It keeps friends and committee business separate. Invoices, minutes and other official communication go through this email address. We keep our personal out of it.

You are smart to do that.
