Argh! Just learned my All Flock feed has the same calcium level as layer...

The damage done to roosters is drastically less than the damage done to the kidneys of growing birds. I'm of the opinion that feeding layer to roosters is really not a big deal. The studies feeding roosters high calcium vs low calcium show no statistical difference in the formation of uroliths - roosters seem to get them whether or not they get high calcium.


The studies on feeding it to sub-adult birds are pretty convincing though - very high rates of kidney, liver, and urinary tract damage.
