My daughter was holding our 3 month old prod. red and she flapped to get down and landed a bit funny. She limped some, and for the next two weeks would limp off and on. She slowly minimized her walking, and now for the past 2 weeks has not walked at all. She gets up on her elbows and uses her wings to get around the yard. Her feet look a little turned in...is there any hope for recovery? I hate to have her laying eggs in this condition. We are praying for a miracle, love her so much. You can see her at our blog.

I would bring her inside and give her a nice comfortable spot. Keep her calm, maybe in a darkened space. Give her a bit of time to recover. I see she wasn't eating much on your blog, try some scrambled eggs, that tends to get them to eat.

Actually she is eating great most of the time. It's the drinking on her own...she doesn't really try to. So we give her water. We try and keep her away from the others, and she scoots over by them, she wants to be with them...even at night, we made her own little spot in the coop, and she scooted over and up in the cubby with the others. She is darling. Do you think she could still recover?

Opps, sorry! My mistake on the eating. I would put her inside for a bit by herself, you could put a stuffed toy with her, but she should rest as much as possible. Does her leg feel broken to you? Does she not let you touch it? I honesty don't know about recovery, but I know hens have come back from worse. Hopefully someone with more experience will chime in here.

No, don't feel any breaks...concerned about some weird nerve damage, but who knows. I felt up around her hips too an they both felt normal, but I'm no vet either. Her toes/feet are a bit turned in, she gets around more on her elbows with help of her wings. She does rest all day, and finds a safe place outside under something...like our slide. We give her water and make sure she eats. Sometimes she sits inside on my daughter's lap and just gets spoiled. We do our best to keep her from moving around too much, but are concerned about her not using her limbs and then her having a hard time using them later. I suppose rest is best though.
So you have seen hens recover from worse? How long did it take??? So we aren't wrong for waiting it out even if it's been almost 3 weeks? She doesn't show signs of pain at all.

Is there an avian vet in your area? They could take some x rays and see if anything is broken or damaged. That would probably be your best bet. Poor girl, I hope she gets better soon!

We do have...but from what I've been told they can't do anything really about a break. A break would need to heal. Would a break cause her to not use her feet? They turn in a little funny...maybe she's just hurting still until she recovers...
