Arizona Geese!

Hi! how many folks out there live in Arizona and keep Geese?

I live in Tucson and would really like to get a couple geese. Where abouts do you live? Have you had a good experience keeping geese in this hot dry climate?

I've read that people in dry, hot climates have a lot of shady areas for their geese, not so much as trees, but man-made things (if you have trees then that's a plus!), something like this, http://d1raws287cqq80.cloudfront.ne...cache/product_full/images/products/SM6047.jpg
And have a lot of water sources around, maybe including a kiddie pool.

Geese are adaptable to any climate, provided that you give the appropriate shelter & nutritional needs. Good luck on your goose quest!

Lol this thread really took off!

I keep sebastapols, Chinese geese, and American buffs. Between the three, the Chinese are by far the best suited to desert life out here in the Az heat. They are not as heavy/fat as the Americans or , so they don't over heat as easily. All three enjoy a shady retreat during the heat of the day and a pool deep enough for them to swim and bathe in.

I am in Lordsburg, NM by the AZ border. We have orchards and a large pond we can fill with one of our wells. I am researching the use of haylage with waterfowl. I own donkeys and they use it in the UK and parts of the US in drought conditions. You moisten it, but only enough that they will eat because of molds, etc. I am trying to find some ways for Kuku to feed Princess Trina her greens.

I have used both bermuda and alfalfa to feed my geese. The ducks preferred the alfalfa over the bermuda because of the leaves, but they cant eat the stems like the geese can. You don't need to moisten the hay, just make sure that they have access to plenty of water. Another tasty treat they like is soaked/ sprouted corn or wheat, carrot tops, finely chopped summer squash, and occasionally tomatoes.
