Arkansas Blue egg layers

Feeling bad about your news. I can understand why your company would make this decesion but it's so hard to let go of something that becomes part of you.
Maybe you could co-opt with someone in you area. Kinda the same as now from the company's view through
Yes, because we have to sign that we won't be anywhere that birds are including feed stores, fairs, livestock auctions, etc. This includes any houses with pet birds such as parrots, parakeets, etc. I will have to wait until I am past retirement age before I can get back into them or change jobs. Since it would be impossible to find a job between now and Sunday...

I live in Vermont .... Our arctic weather is over - we were in the 50's where I am today - and it should never drop back down this year - so they will be able to ease into the next winter slowly.

I hate your employer can't let you do some sort of dis-infective method to and from work - seems a simple solution could be figured out and for a very small cost.

Although mine are chickens (outside and free range when I am home) ... I do have an injured roo in my house now in a double box recouping as he dislocated his leg jumping off the roost - treating him like a pet for now because he is the son of my favorite hen who passed away ... that is how much I care (because I hate the shavings all over !) He will be going back out in a special pen as soon as the nights are consistently in the 40's. He is a welsummer roo. My flock is mixed brown egg layers ... and then I wanted a flock of blues

I'm not even sure how many AB's you have - and do you only have the one roo ? Nothing like being settled for a week and then off again ! But I would love an unrelated roo for the hen I have here - I assume she and my roo are sibliings - though they could be mixed a little more ....

Geez - I just looked at the calendar ! He gave you all of 5 days to rehome living animals ? What a heel.

I'd also take any peeps that hatch out - as they would ship easier - well - just know if you don't find a better / closer option - I'll be glad to take them in.

I can't believe you can't even go to a fair ... what about a good can of Lysol ? Sounds really too over the top to me.

Just realized that "take" above sounded badly - I'd very happy to pay you not only for shipping but also for the peeps .... Same with the adult birds. Guess I am just irritated at how people act toward others ... maybe you do need to rehome the birds ... but 5 days? That just seems unreasonable.

The thing that is the most amazing about the commercial poultry place putting restrictions on back yard flocks is not realizing that the lack of diversity created hurts all poultry.

Commercial lines are so genetically identical that they are not resistant to illness--and that makes the problem worse. Commercial operations want all chickens but theirs destroyed. That is what they expect to happen to Crystals flock.

Shhhh.
Stealth camo coop with an underground run. And a moat.

funny post!

I seriously do understand the poultry companies' position on this because AI would devastate one of the top crops in the state. We are talking millions of dollars of losses and since the source is migratory birds this is one of the cases in which the backyard flock is in greater danger of exposure than the commercial closed house.

Lets see what we can work out. I have only one roo than is good enough to ship. My blue cockerel has a curled foot due to a break. I have 5 hens currently. I have kept my flock small in order to pass on more birds and give them sufficient room when I couldn't let them out to free range. I would need you to take over the obligation for a couple dozen fertile eggs to send out for the black hen and splash roo. I'll need to see about getting my neighbor to come test them for shipping. The main problem is going to be the time frame as I can't have them on my place after Sunday, but they shouldn't ship until Monday. I'll PM you if I can get everything worked out and find shippers. Possibly I can get my neighbor to house these temporarily until I can get everything arranged.
