Arkansas Blue egg layers

I am considering shipping hatching eggs this spring for the cost of postage to anyone who wants to commit to a breeding effort. There are just too few of these birds, and their situation will be precarious until there are enough people breeding them to ensure a stable population.

I've never gotten a mean roo from this mix AND my hens, while not people oriented - are not really "flighty" they just skirt around when a touch or cuddle is on the way.

I am always looking to add to my gene pool - so when my broody hens hits broody - usually in July - I would take you up on that ....

I am sorry I have been so quiet lately - I will try to get pics of my hens and roo out there soon .....I have 2 grey splash hens and grey splash roo and 4 white splash hens.

I am interested in these birds and want to breed some.

For anyone interested, please contact me in the spring - maybe mid April. I do not want to try to keep track of things this far in advance. I will be hatching for myself but not until April - too cold here earlier, and I will be gone for a trip end of March/early April and do not want to split the flockj and hatch until after that.

I really enjoyed my blue hen before she passed away in our first heat wave of spring last year.
I'm not set up for breeders but I would love to hatch & grow out to get a splash pullet.
All the rest will go to other homes.
I have 2 Brinseas, an Octo20 & an Octo40. They are practically bullet-proof.

Since you are close if you do I want some.

Hi all,

I know I've been missing in action lately.... Just too busy at work. I am about to set up my breeding pen for the spring and do plan on making eggs available again this spring. Most of my birds will hatch out splash as I am using my splash rooster over blue and splash pullets. I will keep the price the same @ $2 per egg. If anyone here is interested please pm me. I agree that we need to get more of these birds out there. They are such great birds!

A very generous offer, i really hope we can get more birds out there!!!!

Here is my boy all grown up.

I did a test hatch with eggs from my White Leghorn and my Leghorn/Black Ameraucana cross pullets (both black and barred) and here are the offspring that were given away shortly after hatch:

The blue cockerel on the right side also has barring gene from the Leghorn side of the cross. The cockerel in the middle does not, he has some shank color but not enough for me to consider good breeding, also the pea comb isn't as tight as I would want it. The black pullets have nice slate legs and tight pea combs which is what I really want in my birds. All appear to have white ear lobes which is my preference as well. I am excited to have more birds hatch next time with better fertility. My winter fertility with the current cockerel was very low. Out of my next hatch I am planning to keep all LeghornXUofA blues that are pullets with the darkest shanks and then all blue pullets from the project pullets that I have been breeding for 3+ years.
