Arrgg. Crazy chicken sitter.

I agree! she has done such a fine job at "bringing something into the world", Now she should see what it's like to carry out her actions!

sounds like you actually have an amazing sitter..
I had my sister watch over mind wile was on vacation. Her BF tossed a few eggs in the creek behind the house because "they had poo on them"
Be lucky she does as much as she does for you.

remember theses are not her animals. She does not have the attachment you do. She is also a one time farmer. She sees livestock not (insert bird name here).

I have to agree with some that you have a great sitter-your animals are healthy-eating- drinking-and ALIVE! When you get home, put on some heavy duty gloves and show her how to pick the bird up without being afraid to handle a broody. Then next time you will have nothing to worry about when you leave. I can't imagine you would cut her out as a sitter because she is afraid of the bird-1 itty bitty birdie-She sounds great to have. I have yet to find a GREAT sitter that doesn't screw something up royally:(

I have the same problem, our neighber was watching my silkies for a couple of weeks when i was out of town i told her to take any eggs from our 2 coops (thats how we pay her she likes eggs more then money) and when i get back my hen is laying on 13 eggs!!!! which are due next week!!!! shes there 3 times a day to give them table scaps and check on them but she forgot about then broody hen sitting in the middle of my coop. im worrid now that itll be too cold for the chicks when they hatch so im going to have to set up a couple of heat lamps:

Nonsense:) the broody mom will keep them warm under her....if you do HAVE to put a heat lamp on 1 should be more than fine! good luck!

i agree but i live in WI and winters here get VERY cold thats why im a bit worried i know people who have had their chicks freeze to death and shes sooo little i dont see her fitting 13 chicks under her plus its her first time being a mom...shes not the brightest lightbuld

Yes but have you candled the eggs? All 13 fertile and growing? I would seriously candle if you haven't-you do not want one exploding in nest! You may only have a few fertile and growing right now-

you'd be amazed at how well they do-I Dont think you'll need more than 1 light though. My one silkie did 8 Large fowl birds without an issue at all..

You are being unreasonable.

You've got a sitter who takes care of your birds. You can not expect her to get pecked or attacked or to know exactly what all your breeding plans are. Nobody is going to take care of your stuff precisely how you do it yourself. You are lucky to have someone who actually keeps your birds alive while you are gone.

You were only gone for a week. I would have removed the eggs when I got home. I wouldn't have even said anything to the sitter, except for "thank you."
