Arrgghh Question about water!

OMG, how do you keep your chick's water clean while they're in the brooder? No sooner do we put fresh water down, we turn around and it's filled with shavings! We thought about coming up with a way to raise it, but space is so limited as it is and will only get worse in the up coming weeks as the chicks grow. Once they're in the coop, it won't be an issue as obviously we will have their water raised up. Just wondering if any of you veteran chick owners have any suggestions while they are in this temporary housing. I thought of using paper towels just on the side that the water sits on, but of course the paper towels don't offer the obsorbency that the shavings do.
I find myself cleaning their water 5 or 6 times a day, which I will continue to do if needed to ensure our chicks have clean water, but wondered if there was another way?

Try putting a small block of wood under the waterer and that should lift it up enough so they can drink yet they aren't throwing shavings in.

I usually put a piece of 2x4 or 2x6 under the waterer to raise it just a bit but I leave the wood longer than the waterer so the chicks will have something to stand on to reach it. But then I raise tiny bantys.

It just needs to be raised up a bit off the floor.

A little piece of a brick or wood will do the trick.

I put mine on a small wire rack, the kind used to cool cookies on. It raises the jug just enuf and the shavings fall through. Works great!!!

We used a piece of 2X4 wood and when the chicks got taller we screwed two pieces of 2X4 together to make the base taller. Luckily we had tons of pieces of wood leftover from building the coop!

Hmmmppp if only it was that easy. I have my water sitting on a 2x6 on top of the shavings. But my little scratcher pain in butt always throws shavings in there. I gave up on the 5 to 6 cleanings, I change it a couple times a day now.

Thanks guys! I figured there'd be a simple solution out there somewhere. I'm a nervous new chick mommy and because of that, I over think the situation sometimes
