...How do you figure out what type of camera you have?
I think the most important difference (except for digital/film) is if it's a Single Lens reflex (where what you see through the viewfinder is the picture through the lens) or compact camera.

The SLR cameras look like old-fashioned serious photographer cameras and if you take the lens off you can see a mirror. These cameras always have interchangeable lenses and a viewfinder window. The digital ones have a screen too.

Some compact cameras do have lenses that can be swopped for others, they are called compact-system cameras.

I just took 92 pictures of my chicks/chickens/and flowers. Not to worry, I won't post all of them! I got one that will make an awesome avatar!
