Article about coop buying

Hi,

I'm desperately searching for one more chicken keeper to interview for a Chickens magazine article I'm writing about buying a new coop. I'm looking for someone outside my own state of Washington who has bought a new coop, as opposed to building one, or buying one used, and would be willing to answer a few questions during a short phone interview this week. For example, why did you decide to buy rather than build, what were your most important considerations when choosing the coop (ie. predator proofing, ease of cleaning, etc.).

Thanks so much!

Cherie

Welcome to BYC!
Asking for a phone interview sounds a bit dicey.

A much more helpful article, or at least a part of your article, would be about why so many prefabbed coops are grossly inadequate and the various false marketing lines used to sell them to uninformed consumers.

There are very few prefabbed or kit coops that are well sized and designed.
The ones that are are very expensive.

Sorry, skeptical, but honest.

Thanks so much for the welcome, reply, and suggestions. I'm planning to cover pros and cons of various coop types. The coop we purchased was locally-made--not prefab--and we love it (the chickens seem to like it, too). I'm confused why a phone interview sounds dicey? I've written many stories and the majority of interviews I've done have either been on the phone or in-person when possible, though I often do email interviews with phone follow-up--I like knowing that I'm interviewing a real person and so does my editor :) Of course, I don't expect anyone to share their phone number or email address with me on a public forum. Thanks again, Cherie

I guess it's the soliciting for phone contact as a new member on a public forum. Using your real name, citing some credentials, and providing links to previous articles would go a long way to show that you are a real person ;)
Sorry, but there's just a lot of scams about these days.

I purchased 2 coops online and couldn't be happier with them. Of course I did some modifying to make them predator proof and also to make them more personal to fit my needs. I know there are many who poo poo a purchased coop but as I have learned on this site, there are many many different ways to raise and house our chickens. Not one way is right or wrong. We all have different needs. I like the idea of an article showing all sides, pros and cons

You're right, as a newbie here I probably shouldn't have made a request right off the bat (desperation got the better of me)--sorry about that. I was planning to provide name, credentials, etc. privately if someone replied that they were up for an interview--if there's a way to do that, which I haven't quite figured out on this forum yet. Sounds like it's probably best if I looked for sources elsewhere, though. Still looking forward to learning from you folks about all things chicken :)

Thanks for your reply, and that's good to hear! One of my sources, a poultry specialist, said almost the exact same thing :)

Well you came to the right place if you want to learn all things chicken.
